Group hike: Cava Buscada - the fossils garden
This corner of the Friuli Dolomites Natural Park is a paradise for hikers. Rifugio Cava Buscada, a former stone quarry now converted into a mountain hut, is located on the right-hand side of Val Zemola, about 1800 meters above sea level. We will explore the old quarry and try to spot the wildlife in an environment that has extraordinary biodiversity. If you are interested in this hike, please contact me!
Hosted by Lucia Montefiori
The event has ended, thank you for your participation!
We will leave from Casera Mela and climb along the forest road, watching the quarry artifacts still in the valley, and enjoying the wonderful surroundings of Val Zemola, with its extreme biodiversity. Once we get to the hut, we will explore the old Red Ammonite quarry, and go hunting fossils between eagles, chamois and marmots, and then we will go down the path once used by quarry workers to get back to their starting point.
WHY YOU SHOULD DO IT:
Because you can really see wildlife here.
Because the views on Mt. Duranno and on Mt. Col Nudo are stunning.
Because you can see how people lived in these mountains in the past.
Extras:
lunch (we can have lunch together at Rifugio Cava Buscada, or after the hike or we can arrange a pack-lunch).
